Mr. Barber has more than 20 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry. Before joining Medalist Capital, Mr. Barber was a vice president with Capital Advisors from 1996 to 2004. Mr. Barber served as the assistant director of admissions at Woodberry Forest School from 1994 to 1996 and was a credit analyst for Wachovia Bank from 1992 to 1994.
Mr. Barber is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Hampden-Sydney College. He is an active member of Christ Church in Raleigh. Mr. Barber is married and has three children.
L. Howard Brooks, Principal
BA, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Mr. Brooks has more than 30 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry. He began his career with Dickinson, Logan, Todd and Barber, where he worked from 1988 until 2005. Before that, Mr. Brooks completed the Corporate Training Program at First Union National Bank in Charlotte and completed one year in the Greensboro City Office.
Mr. Brooks is a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Investment Committee of the Burroughs and Chapin Company in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and a member of the ICSC. He is married and has three children.
E. Scott Mauzy, Principal

MBA, University of Georgia
Mr. Mauzy has more than 18 years of experience in the industry. Before joining Medalist Capital, he was an assistant vice president with Capital Advisors from 2000 to 2004. He also worked with Industrial Developments International in Atlanta and as a financial services consultant with Andersen Consulting.
Mr. Mauzy is active with several community and civic organizations, including Healing Transitions, the Tammy Lynn Center, Special Olympics of North Carolina and the Community HOPE Foundation. Mr. Mauzy and his family are members of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, and he is a former member of the Ravenscroft School and Wake Forest University alumni councils. He is a North Carolina licensed real estate broker, and his professional affiliations include the Mortgage Bankers Association, NAIOP and ICSC.
Roger M. Montague, Principal
BA, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Mr. Montague has more than 20 years of experience in the commercial mortgage industry. Before joining Medalist Capital, he served as assistant vice president with Capital Advisors in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 2002 to 2004. He also served as a junior producer with Capital Advisors from 1999 to 2002 and as an analyst with Centura Commercial Mortgage Capital from 1998 to 1999. Before 1998, he worked as a credit analyst with Central Carolina Bank in Durham, North Carolina.
Mr. Montague is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and earned his BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996. He is professionally affiliated with the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA), and he is an active member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh and the UNC Educational Foundation in Chapel Hill. Mr. Montague is married and has three children.
Lyle H. Farrar, Assistant Vice President
BA, Rutgers University
Lyle joined Medalist Capital in the fall of 2013 as an analyst and was promoted to producer in 2016. Before joining Medalist, Lyle taught Spanish for two years at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia, and served two years as the director of alumni and parent programs at Episcopal High School, also in Alexandria. He earned a BA in Spanish from Rutgers University, where he was a scholarship member of the men’s lacrosse team and served on the student-athlete advisory committee. Lyle enjoys playing golf, coaching local youth lacrosse teams and is a member of Christ Church in Raleigh.
Jordan A. Smith, Analyst
BA, University of North Carolina
Jordan joined Medalist Capital in the spring of 2016 as a full-time analyst after completing an internship with the firm. Before that, he worked as an investment sales intern at Cushman Wakefield and a development and leasing intern at Commercial Realty Advisors.
Jordan earned a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also played on the men’s lacrosse team and was a member of the Carolina Leadership Academy and Carolina Outreach Program.
Caroline Curran, Executive Assistant
BA, George Mason University
Mrs. Curran has more than 18 years of experience in commercial real estate. Before joining Medalist Capital, she worked for International Airport Centers and Perlmutter Investment Company in Chicago from 2000 to 2006, coordinating loan closings and property management for a 7 million-square-foot portfolio.
Caroline enjoys horseback riding, traveling and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
